Stopped in to Smokin Tuna for a later dinner. Opted for the inside seating since I deal with this Florida heat all the time and just have no patience for it anymore. To fulfill my strict conch fritter diet I put myself on everytime I'm in Key West, of course I ordered some as a starter. Overall good, no complaints. Filled myself up with conch, so I decided on the white bean tuna chili as an entree. Overestimated and got the bowl instead of the cup. Delicious but spicy! I had to keep asking for refills on my water since the cups are tiny, in which the server would come by with a pitcher and continue to fill my cup up with more ice than water. By the end of the meal I could have filmed Frozen in my cup. Only compliant being that my friends fries came out cold. Oh and that I didn't see Kenny Chesney like I was expecting. Otherwise, cute bar with awesome live music tucked away from the tourist traps of Duval. Probably the most decently priced place we have gone to as well. Definitely coming back.

NOTE- This is a review of the food only. Came here for lunch. This place is great for music, and as a music venue, the food is good. But the food we had for lunch (conch fritters, two fish sandwiches) was not very good, and there is much better food elsewhere in Key West. I normally write longer reviews, but the entire experience was the opposite of memorable. The service was fine. It's my understanding that the drinks and the music are great. But I would not make a point of coming here for the food with so many better alternatives.

We stopped here after someone on the street recommended Smokin' Tuna Saloon. Smokin' Tuna is right off of Duval and is all outdoor seating. We did redeem the Yelp coupon, which caused some confusion at first. The waitress had no clue what the Yelp coupon was and I'm even wondering if she knew what Yelp was. We finally were able to redeem it after she got a manager who told her it was a real offer. The coupon is for a free order of Conch Fritters when you purchase two entrees. The Conch Fritters were probably some of the best I had in Key West. The only problem is you get only 3 and we could have had more! For dinner both my friend and I order the lobster tail. The lobster tail is a great deal for $24 and includes onion rings and coleslaw. The lobster was perfectly cooked and not overdone at all. The onion rings were crispy and not greasy. The only average part of the meal was the coleslaw. My friend decided against the coleslaw and had a side salad instead. They did charge her a dollar more for it, but the side salad did look good. Smokin' Tuna was a great experience and I would head back the next time in Key West.

The restaurant was great the food was awesome and our waiter was super nice helpful and friendly! If you ever visit it ask for Elena to wait on you! She's the best.

Always love Smoken Tuna. Fish dip and oysters on the half shell are always good. Group sandwich was amazing!! Plus they have Caffine Carl almost every night playing on stage. Didn't get any better than this!

YES! SCORE! I always light up when I hear someone say "Smokin' Tuna" as a go-to option when out on the town. Host to some really incredible local talent such as Caffeine Carl, who you must catch for his amazing guitarist skills, this is a great place to kick back and listen to some terrific music. Like many Key West establishments, this is an open air bar with outdoor table seating. Quite large in overall size, there is a full menu to order from complete with raw bar. Our group popped in and Caffeine Carl was on stage with his group. BONUS DAY! (hee hee) We ordered a round of drinks along with the fish dip and chicken wings for the table. NEWS FLASH! My new favorite chicken wing place on the rock. Perfectly cooked, well done but not to the point of being dried up, no fat and clean off the bone. Woo hoo! Pinch me! The fish dip was really good too. Unfortunately I didn't get any pics of the food. For some reason I am so hungry sometimes, I dive into eating and forget all about the picture part. But fear not! Definitely going back for those wings! I'LL HAVE A SHOT!: Downside: Plastic cups all around. My lemon drop shot came with the sugar and lemon already mixed and poured into the plastic cup. It was too sweet and just nasty. If they can't deliver on execution, they should not make this. I've learned my lesson and will be sticking with strictly beer from now on. YELP OFFER ALERT: 1 free fritter sampler with 2 sandwiches (haven't tried this yet.) SOME TRIVIA: Smokin' Tuna is the official headquarters of the Annual Songwriter's Festival that takes place generally the first weekend in May every year. Next event is May 4-8, 2016. If you love country music, I would highly recommend a visit during this time. T-Shirts and gifts are available at the Smokin' Tuna gift shop. The music genre is mostly country, jazz, blues and mainstream. There is also a web cam available for online viewing on their website. LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION: This is on Charles Street downtown and can easily be missed if strolling Duval. If you are at Irish Kevin's, spin around. You will see a little street in front of you (the Red Garter is on the right corner). That is Charles Street. Smokin' Tuna is down the street on the left side. Cups! So many Cups!! I think while we were in Key West we got about 50 of these cups! I love it!! Great for music. Older crowd. Didn't try the food, but the drinks were awesome. The store only seems to be open during the day and maybe dinner time, but not at night. They did open for a few minutes while we were there drinking one night, which was a great idea, but we drunk bought some souvenirs. I'd recommend this bar to anyone coming to Key West. It's off Duval, so it's not as crazy packed as the bars on Duval, but it's certainly very close. It's located down the street across from Irish Kevin's.

Recommended to us by the cabbie where they don't slaughter your wallet. Highly recommend this place. Great food. Live music. People are super nice. Bought a couple of t shirts....could have been of higher quality but who cares the food was great!

Great place to have a beer and watch a band. Dinner was bland and the service was horrible.

Fly in my beer And frozen shrimp l recommend going somewhere else for fresh seafood, try pinchers for a laidback seafood joint.

Live music was awesome, the tuna wasabi is a must try! With soy ginger wasabi source.

This used to be a regular haunt of mine called Naked Lunch. I was so happy to see it reopened! Ambiance is very laid back and casual. Beautiful large wooden main bar and decent sized second bar. They turned the billiards room into a gift shop. Huge banyan tree near the main entrance provides great shade during the day too. Raw oysters are great and there's live music most nights. Singer/songwriters mainly. Very friendly and attentive staff and a slower pace from most of Duval with many locals around. Clean bathrooms too.

Key West, Beer, shrimp, Buffett and beer.....did I say that? Oh well - gotta love this place. Not really 'Old Key West' but a great hang out. Good music and great food. Worth it for a Monday afternoon after ditching the kids!

  • Jose C.

Great music venue. Right off Duval st. The set up is great. I even had my relatives looking at me through the live camera feed in their website. Food was also great. Conch fritters are a must. The catch of the day was also great. Can't wait to come back.

This restaurant is on a side street near Duval Street. They had a sign for Mount Gay Rum and a guy directing us to the restaurant. I am so glad that we noticed that sign. The food and service was terrific! The drinks were strong and reasonably priced. Our server Jeff was excellent and made my family very comfortable. They have both outdoor seating and indoor air conditioned seating. We had a burger, Mahi-mahi and shrimp and all were really good. I also recommend the conch fritters. You won't be disappointed in dining at Smokin Tuna Saloon.

Great place to watch live music in a very cool indoor outdoor atmosphere. Good drinks at reasonable prices, one of my favorite bars in Key West!

  • Cheryl H.

I had the tuna melt sandwich. By far, the BEST I ever had! The thick bread was buttered and cooked perfectly. The tuna had a spicy kick to it M&D was made with sour cream instead of mayo. Lots of melted cheddar finished it off. Loved it!

  • Marie L.

Good bands, good food. We had the scallops and they were very good. They were cooked right and they were a good size. The meal came wirh two sides, and I chose corn as one. What a surprise to realize it was fresh corn on the cob. We really liked the ambience - it's very Key West. Nice courtyard with sails to keep the sun from killing you and its designed really well. It's just says relax, kick-back and have an adult beverage.

Good food and plenty of it. We came for lunch and we're not disappointed. Wait staff pleasant and attentive.

We went for the white bean and fish chili. And we were very pleasantly surprised that it was pretty awesome. You can get a cup for only $4.99. We got the $5 Margarita. Fair but no real deal. Nice courtyard with good music playing. Can get a little loud if too close so we sat near the back. A few drunks wander through now and then and can be a little bit of a bother but this is Key West. I had the Fish sandwich which I had heard about. It was ok. Probably messed up by getting blackened and not much fish on a lot of bread. Yelp did have a coupon for Conch Fritters. Of the fritters I had while in Key West(Kelly's and Caroline's) these were the best but still not much conch. Much better in the Bahamas. Service was decent. Food OK. Good atmosphere. A good dive. Get the White Chili!

Like a lot of other posters have said my wife and I stumbled on to this place somewhat accidentally. It was one of few places at end of Duval that was still serving past 10 pm on Monday night. What a gem! Great atmosphere, great service and great food! I had blackened Mahi sandwhich. They had run out of draft beer but probably due to day of week and deliveries had not been made yet. Wife had raw oysters and conch fritters. All good. Prices very reasonable for wharf area of KW. Highly recommend. 5 stars!

  • Kimberly E.

Very nice environment - it's like it is set up in its own mini town. We had the tuna fish dip (awesome) and a grouper. Nice live music, but not too loud, every night.

    (5)
  • Ken P.

Atmosphere was amazing. During the day we really enjoyed ourselves. At night the band wasn't that great and way too loud. I would return again during lunch hours.

Love the atmosphere, the setting and the band playing. The food is okay. The service is amazing

  • Allison P.

Nice little place right off Duval...but you could miss it, it's in the way back on the side street and I'm glad i didn't miss this one. Walking in, it has the awesome indoor/outdoor feel you love at a restaurant on the island. Big trees and open space. Awesome live music. drinks are decent nothing too special, but i did have the Smoked tuna melt sandwich which was outstanding!!! i'm not even one to get tuna melts but I'm sure glad i did, it helped me go on a keep drinking while enjoying the cool music and nice weather.

  • Kevin H.

Great place to go any night of the week but the band on Monday nights is awesome. Food is pretty good and you get a free cup with each draft beer. Great place to go with friends

  • Shelly E.

Great bar with open courtyard. Live music-Clint Bullard if you are lucky enough to be here when he is performing makes it all perfect. This spot is tucked away off Front st. Great place to feel like a local!

  • Kökö H.

Such a lovely, laid back dining experience away from the loud hustle and bustle out on the streets. The shade of the trees with the cool breeze felt amazing as the live music played (which wasn't overly loud). I ate from the raw bar and it was tasty as usual. My friend got the shrimp and chips and was very satisfied. Our waiter was attentive and VERY polite unlike most establishments I've visited in the keys. I suggest this place for all people!! Not too expensive and you'll leave very satisfied

  • Kelley H.

I had the spicy tuna melt. It's was really good. Fun atmosphere with a camera at the end of the bar. Only disappointment was the unfriendly bar tender.

  • Donna M.

The Smokin Tuna is a great place for Trop Rock Bands and good food/drink. I had the best fish sandwich ever. I think the reason was they prepared just the way I asked and when it came out it was hot and right off the grill. The server was fantastic. He even let me us the insect repellent I forgot to put on before leaving our room and since bugs love me, he offered the use of the repellent. Back to the food.................on of the best places for seafood that doesn't cost a fortune. I can't say how lunch is because we normally go for early dinner.

    (4)
  • Rob W.

They have a great bar and courtyard here. It is ideal for an open air music venue. The crowd is a mix of locals and tourists and the music is good. It is a slightly more laid back than the bars directly on Duval street and very enjoyable.

  • Tara H.

Good food, good music! Service was average. We had the smokin tuna dip- it was excellent. Just enough kick from the jalapeños. My his and had the wasabi tuna and LOVED it. Nice place to kick it on a Monday evening in the Keys for us

Nice Music, excellent service, and good food. i'll recomend this place! Food tequila too.

We stopped in on Tuesday, May 12, for an early dinner (5:00 p.m.). Placed an order from the Raw Bar - advised that the person in charge was not there yet. Also, placed an order for food. The draft beer that was served to us was warm, not cold. The food order was okay, would not rave about it. We received our Raw Bar order after we were done with our regular food order. Was very disappointed with the entire experience.

Rating five stars for the conch fritters, fish bites, and white chili with tuna. Also a big plus to get off the busy, crowded main streets during spring break. Did I mention the fabulous conch fritters?

  • Michael L.

A fun find off the main Duval St strip! Great food & very reasonably priced (especially fot being so close to Duval St). Live music & great, old town Key West ambiance when dining outside in their courtyard. Well worth checking out. Impressed with their homemade sauces too- fresh! (note: wasn't talking abt their hot sauces. While those were good, they're made by another company)

This review is only for drinks and the locale as a music venue, we didn't try the food. However, what other folks were order looked great! We went to the Smokin' Tuna on two subsequent nights to hear/see Scott Kirby, one of our favorite Margaritaville radio artists. As a music venue, it is pretty perfect for Key West - there is a nicely constructed stage, then a mix of covered and uncovered space to sit, and then a large dance floor. The first night we went, it was cold and rainy, but we were still darn comfortable by the bar with a space heater going. I REALLY appreciated that. The drink specials (the usual margaritas, rum punch, and fruity mixed drinks you see everywhere) were both well made and well priced, and they had a decent beer selection. We liked the bartenders (middle aged guys) both nights. Professional, somewhat hands off, but courteous and quick. This seems like the type of place that 23 year olds looking to party and 53 year olds looking to enjoy music and have a few drinks (and party too!) might be equally happy. My only complaint was the lack of drinks unique to the establishment. They did have a couple, and I would recommend you try the Key Lime Shooter, but treat it as a martini! I am not one for shots, but this looked so good on the menu that I thought, "What the heck?!" and ordered it. It tasted like a high end Key Lime martini, and I ended up getting two and sipped them down. Too tasty to be slammed.

  • Leslie S.

I love the food here, I always get some conch fritters. I like their smoking tuna dip. I wish they had better beer specials that's the only thing stopping the place from being packed! Don't forget the live music!

  • Joey F.

Friday night, no host at the door but a please wait to be seated sign. After waiting for 5 minutes with no one we went to the bar for a drink. Decided wouldn't be a great place to do dinner after we had to wait for a while for a drink.

If you are looking for somewhere less hectic than the bars on Duvall, this is your place. Stumbled upon this place years back and fell in love with the atmosphere. Took my husband there this past year and it's still just as chill. The staff is very friendly and welcomes you as if you were an old friend stopping by. Can't beat the live music here either.

    (4)
  • Valerie H.

Absolutely delicious! I feel like this place is a bit of a hidden gem because it is just off duval street. Everything is so yummy, their tartar sauce is to die for. Atmosphere is great and they have live music. Not as busy on a Saturday night (at the time I went) which was great! Smoked fish dip is an absolute must!!!!!

    (5)
  • Brian H.

Love this bar!great place for locals and tourists - great steak and seafood! Looking to meet a celeb this is it - one block off duva!

  • Chef C.

Staff is great. It was my first experience with conch, and you know, it wasn't that bad! Had the grouper sandwich which was pretty tasty, and drinks were pleasantly strong. It's a hidden jewel tucked away from duval, shaded, open courtyard with two bars to choose from. Live music and friendly people complete the surroundings. I would definitely take my friends to enjoy an evening here.

    (4)
  • Katie F.

I know this place has good reviews, so we must have gone at an off time. Hubby and I had a simple fried grouper sandwich and I almost broke my tooth on the stale bread.. The fried grouper was good tho. Our waiter didn't seem to know much, but maybe he was new. With that being said he was all by himself to handle many tables. We also had a yelp offer and he didn't know how to use it and never brought out the fried conch fritters (yelp offer). Better luck to the next yelper...

  • Nellie H.

To be clear, this is just a review of the food, as we ordered delivery and did not visit the actual location. I ordered the "fresh catch" (mahi) sandwich, which came with fries, my husband ordered the fish (also mahi) and chips, and I ordered a piece of key lime pie. My sandwich was good, but nothing I haven't had from every other place on the island. My husband said his fish and chips were not good...he said the fish and breading combination tasted weird. Luckily the key lime pie was delicious! We'd eat there again because they conveniently deliver, and our delivery time was super fast. Visited September 2014

If I lived in KW, I would be a regular here for sure. This review is only for the bar- we didn't eat here. Bartenders are great which really makes a place for me. Anyone can pop open a beer or mix a rum & coke; it's the company that makes it worth coming back. I love walking into a place and having it just feel comfortable and relaxing.

    (5)
  • Michael M.

Was there the other night and music ( Scott Kirby) was great but food very uninspiring . I ordered fried shrimp and got frozen IQF things that could have been served in Kansas. Come on. You are in key west and can't do better than that? Wine by the glass 9 bucks? Will go for the music and swill cheap beer next time

    (2)
  • Leora B.

Great atmosphere, outside with live music. The food is good Key West pub fare, salads, sandwiches and great wings!

    (4)
  • Tom H.

Had some great seafood, the jerked catch of the day was excellent. The service good and attentive, and they make an excellent mojito to boot! There were a couple of pretty good bands for live entertainment, and they had a (pretty normal) casual key west atmosphere. You have to look for them as they are not right on Duval, but they aren't difficult to find and well worth the effort.

    (5)
  • Chris W.

Quick service (for Key West). Friendly waiter. 2 for 1 drink coupons. Smoked tuna dip was great. Wasabi Tuna entree was fantastic!

    (4)
  • Craig A.

This was our first food and drink after arriving in Key West. It was a little but hidden and we might not have bothered if not for the other good reviews. We are glad we did! The bar tender was super friendly and the food and drink were great. We had conch fritters, a Caesar salad with blackened mani mahi, fish n chips, and stone crab claws. The fish n chips had the faintest taste of an extra seasoning in the batter that I had never tasted in that dish before, this definitely set it apart. To drink we had a few beers, the rum punch, a margarita, and even some of the key lime shooters (tasty!). Would definitely go again and highly recommend anybody else checking it out.

Great food service and atmosphere. The staff was great. Smoked tuna appetizer was good. Very good musician playing dinner music.

I want to like it here so much, but have been underwhelmed too much. Don't eat here, the quality of food has continued to slide. Most recently our experience with their raw bar selections left us questioning the kitchens ability to judge fresh ingredients, having been given several borderline raw clams and oysters. They were also opened very sloppily, with no regard for keeping she'll fragments out of the tasty parts. The drink selection is pretty good, pours are heavy, and prices are very reasonable. All good, except most people venture here for the live music. It's been excellent a few times, but last night was very off putting. We got in the bar at 8:40 pm, just in time to grab a nice covered booth for 4 people to listen to the 9 pm band. We thought it was a little odd that no instruments were on stage, and the mic holders had no mics. 9 o clock hit and there was no action. We asked the server when we could expect the band to play (after finishing our disappointing raw bar) he came back and said 10 minutes, and apologized for running late. 930 hits and still no movement on stage. Finally at 945 some musicians hop on stage, string their guitars, tune them, go through about 20 minutes of sound check, and then leave the stage..... so at 10:05 we leave. 65 minutes after they should have started, the most redeeming factor of this place, the music venue, let down a large bar full of people. It'll take some time before we try again. It's a major Bummer since it's the closest music to our condo.

  • Samantha A.

Service was good, nothing took longer than it should! I had the oyster po'boy, honestly felt like it needed more than 5 to make it more filling... Also the conch fritters needed more conch in it! It's more like a hush puppy with conch in it haha. Otherwise, had an enjoyable experience. :)

They have Fantastic Smokin Tuna Chili! Not to mention friendly service. Gets crowded most nights but is also a good stop for lunch. Been here in October, March and May. Relaxing.....

Music was good, wine was good, service was acceptable. I had the fish bites and they were tasty but my boyfriend had the fried shrimp and they tasted like Gorton's fried shrimp. The fries were hot but lacked salt. Overall, disappointing dining experience. Next time, we will just go for the music and drinks.

We've been to the Smokin' Tuna a few times. One of those was for a catered event and the nibblies were just fine. The smoked fish dip/spread is delicious. The conch fritters are about what you get everywhere here: mediocre. (I'm sure there are awesome conch fritters somewhere, but I've given up looking.) Good veg and dip. The bar is Key West casual and partly open to the elements. The staff are all great. The oysters (from Texas on the last visit) were lovely and the shucker did a good job of not leaving any shards of shell behind or piercing the oyster. The stone crab was cracked just enough to make you work a wee bit to get to the meat. The entertainment is worth sticking around for. Lots of great artists like Scott Kirby and Caffeine Carl. Definitely worth the visit.

The outdoor decor was great. Sitting outside listening to the live band was OK as the live band seemed to attract the crowd that play jimmy Buffett on their boat. The food was bar food but with excellent and fresh seafood. The fritters and tuna melt were superb!

Awesome dinner! Jerk Mahi sandwich reminded me why I love jerk seasoning. Mojito was good too. Even better than the food-the ambiance. Live music and great service make this place a fantastic choice.

Good quality food. Outdoor seating with live music. Ceviche was good. Needed a break from fish and really enjoyed the pulled pork. Waitress forgot to enter my meal and comped it without hesitation. Wasn't expecting that at all but appreciated the prompt response and correction. Very pleasant dining experience

We stumbled upon this place as it is hidden away from the direct view of Duval Street. We had just left Kelly's Caribbean restaurant after deciding with the bitter hostess and waitress and the empty dining area that it wouldn't be worth eating dinner there. So we were so happy to see the Smokin' Tuna! The menu actually looks so much better than the one at Kelly's. More options, for sure. Don't forget to use the yelp check-in offer for free conch fritters. I had wanted to try some while in the Keys. Delicious! I had the breaded butterfly shrimp and my husband had the cheeseburger. Now, I don't normally eat beef and I am telling you that it smelled SO good that I had to have a couple of bites of his cheeseburger!!! It was really delicious!!!!!!! My in laws enjoyed their meal a lot. My aunt was surprised as to how good her fish caesar salad was. It was Sunday at 8:30 pm and they had live music going on and a lot of people at the bar.... totally the polar opposite of what was going on (or not going on) at Kelly's. Totally recommend and will be returning the next time I am in the Keys!

If I could give zero stars..... I don't know how in the world this earned an average of four stars! This place was seriously dismal. Service was ok, but the food was as lousy as lousy can get. Please don't waste your time.

  • John E.

A must miss. Food was shy of very average. Nothing was memorable - except the gross bathrooms. Service was adequate - started out extremely poor, then rebounded slightly. In a sea of great choices - don't be fooled by this one

We wandered here in the middle of the day after ending up with a 2-for-1 drink card. The place was pretty empty, maybe half a dozen people hanging out at the bar and on the patio area. They had live music, which was nice, but the poor guy was playing for empty seats. The bartender was really personable and one of his comments (about Key West being one of the few places where it doesn't matter if you're a millionaire or on your last dollar... as long as you're a decent person, it's all good.) stuck with me.

found this place on yelp on the last night of a week long visit...it instantly became my favorite of the dozen or so places we ate during the week...the waitress was great, immediately suggesting our party of 3 move to a larger table so we have more room, and then recommending the tuna dip app and the wasabi tuna dinner (i had told her i wanted fish)...both were really good...my friends had some kind of steak which they liked...definitely a place to which i will return once i move down there...yes, i fell in love with KW and will relocate as soon as i can :)

Great food, outstanding service. Ask for Jeffrie as a server. He was very helpful with entree selections. In addition he was very proactive in servicing our needs. I highly recommend the Smoking Tuna Saloon.

A block off Duval St - a bit sleepy at lunchtime but I bet this place rocks at night. Choked down the $5 happy hour cocktail, but things got better from there. The tuna swimming in a soy-wasabe concoction was really good.

  • Ann S.

This was my second time visiting Smokin' Tuna, after my husband and I really enjoyed an early seafood dinner last time. I recently returned with my sister for drinks after dinner. We were looking for a fun place to people watch with cocktails. A band was playing, the place was busy but not crowded, and the atmosphere was fun, with a mixed age group. The drinks, however, were horrendous. Stick with beer or whatever happens to be on tap, and stay away from all margaritas and any of their featured cocktails on the menu.

I'm not much on fruity drinks but YUMM these guys make a mean pina colada. Really enjoyed the atmosphere and the ever so slightly off the beaten path feel. Bartender was amazing. I'll certainly be back.

We went there early so there was canned music. Looks like a neat venue but not much to say. Bartender took care of us. Just one of the tourist to him. Not much communication etc. I know places like this really don't like tourist but they are the ones that keep them going so I would be nice and talk up the customers. Oh well there are a lot of other bars in KW.

Just a few steps on a side street off Duval, probably our favorite music venue in Key West. Great atmosphere and great staff, especially bartender Ed. We popped in almost every night and stayed for hours

It's a little hidden, and that's ok with me. We hung around the bar for a couple afternoons. Great dark & stormy drinks, good beer choices. And the fried fish-of-the-day sandwich was the best one we had for the entire week. Of course we bought a t-shirt!

I have been to Key West Many Many times and I normally stick with the old Favorites, but if this place keeps it up they will be strong and active 20 years from now! Food Was great, prices fair, Outside dining awesome, and very close to the action without the congestion or noise. Go!

Great place to listen to live music! Even on a Sunday night!!!! The night we were there was Rusty Lemmon and Caffeine Carl! Awesome band!! There are trees growing inside the place, very unique! We ate there; I had the baked hogfish in a ginger soy sauce with new potatoes and the corn! Very good! Moist and flavorful, tasted fresh! My husband ate the Mahi Mahi fried sandwich and he said it was the best! He just ate one at the Island Fish Co. in Marathon the prior night and it was awful, tasted fishy and not fresh, this blew it away!! Our waitress, Kayla, was very friendly and gave us the recommendations! Highly recommend you check this place out! It's just off of Duvall Street near Sloppy Joe's and the Hog's Breath. Like them on Facebook, they update regularly to let you know who is playing and what's going on!!

Great atmosphere, really friendly staff, and the tuna white bean chili is amazing!

Excellent spot to grab a bite, enjoy the key west weather, and get down with your bad self to a great live band . Try the fresh fish sandwich blackened or jerked ( my mahi mahi was super tasty ) , any of their mixed drinks, & complete your meal with none other then the Key Lime Pie . In the short time we were here, Smokin Tuna quickly became a favorite place to go in the evening .

Nice key west atmosphere. Fried grouper sandwich tasteless. Pet friendly. Will return for drinks and music and skip the food.

So excited to be on vacation and decided to hit up our first bar for the day. We came across smokin tuna and boy was it a mistake. Our waitress was so rude when she took our order. We showed her our check in from yelp and tried to redeem our free conch fritter but all we got was an attitude and she rolled her eyes at us. If you you're looking big attitude to ruin your day this is definitaly the place to be. Btw after going back and forth with the waitess they finally gave us three pieces of conch fritter when the menu clearly stated six pieces. Ps don't offer coupons if you're going to give us a hard time about it. Here's a big tip go to Irish Kevin's instead.

Very cool outdoor bar with lots of fans going so you're not sweating to death. They have drink specials and cool live music. We didn't have any food while we were there, but I've heard the scallops are good when they have them. We'll be back for sure.

Nothing will get me somewhere faster than a 2-for-1 coupon. That being said, we came upon this restaurant as we were walking the strip and were handed a flier. I liked the private courtyard. I also really liked the blueberry beer. There were 5 of us traveling together so collectively we decided to make this our dinner locale. I really, really don't like one of the guys in our group of 5, but even he couldn't ruin my time spent at the Smoking Tuna Saloon. Sure, he tried. But he failed. My best friend and I shared the Acapulco dip (shrimp, scallops, snow crab, creamy salsa & cheese), which was phenomenal. The only thing that could have made it better would be an upgrade on the chips they served it with. They weren't stale...I just would have preferred something lighter, thinner and less like your typical grocery store tortilla chip (that gets served at every house party with jarred grocery store salsa). Regardless, we ate every bite. Our female server handled our group like a pro. She made great suggestions, got everything right, was super friendly and took your typical tourist photo's for us of our group. I didn't catch her name, but she was blond and we were in on the evening of 1/12/13. That evening they had a solo singer who played guitar. He was great! He played "Walking in Memphis" that would make Marc Cohn proud. The "Saloon" reminded me of a tree house. I especially loved the twinkly lights. The guy in our group that I like would say his favorite thing was the beer and the fact that they were playing the NFL games - in every corner (so no matter which direction you faced, you could watch it). As for the guy in our group that I don't like, who cares what he liked. It was unfortunate the fish was fresh and that he didn't get food poisoning. ha ha

Nice spot. The ambiance is really cool and the food was good. I didn't feel like I was in the middle of Key west. My wife and I both had the blackened mahi sandwich (I had the full moon style, very good lunch). We rented bikes and rode all over looking for the right place to get lunch. This place was exactly what we were searching for. Decent beer selection and refreshing $5 margaritas.

Ordered 1/2 pound if shrimp and waited 20 minutes while drinking my beer and shrimp never came. Wow!

We went here for drinks only and sat at the bar outside. Nice atmosphere, great drinks - had a yummy rum runner for $5 (that's a great price in Key West). Bartender was nice, friendly and funny. Would go back to try the food. It was very busy and everyone seemed to be having a good time. Lots of open area for larger groups.

Went here for a quick Sunday lunch. The fried grouper sandwich with French fries was large for the price and the taste was good. The Acapulco dip and ceviche were decent but the tortilla chips were simply over salted bag chips. Definitely took away from the taste of the dips. Service was respectable and the food came out quickly. All in all, pub grub with a tropical flair.

No cover charge or tickets required at this new (2011) bar featuring talented musicians, accomplished singer songwriters, and recording artists. This part outside/part inside saloon serves up high quality sounds and lots of fun! Two bar areas and plenty of table seating pleases everyone and an enormous tree in the middle of the place adds charm. Now a recently added chef is serving quality local-inspired food at reasonable prices. Key West keeps getting better!

The good: Nice outdoor setting away from the main drag. Good service, nice people. The tuna dip and margaritas were good. The bad: Music too loud for conversation (but that may be a personal preference). The tuna dip was served with a pile of crackers wrapped in cellophane...2 crackers in each pack. It was a real hassle opening up all those packets. We also ordered fish & chips (mahi-mahi). They were more like fish nuggets, dry and pretty flavorless. Would not go back.

Really great atmosphere, Half outside, half inside and a bar with trees! Love it! Bartenders are super friendly which is kind of rare in Key West. Smoked Tuna white bean chili is outstanding, and definitely the best wings I have had in a long while. Really fresh oysters and shrimp. House made pulled pork sliders are amazing!. Wish they had more craft beer though. THE BEST PLACE FOR LIVE MUSIC IN KEY WEST. Headquarters for the Key West Songwriters Festival, (one of the best Festivals in Key West)

I'm only commenting on the drinks. Bobby makes one of the best Bloody Mary's I have ever had. He uses juice from locally grown pickled green been juice an habanero olive juice. And, more importantly, he didn't treat us like tourists. Nice to have a bartender who is a normal guy and doesn't fill you full of shit.

Every time we come here we have a great time. The atmosphere is fantastic and the location is just off of the main crowded Duval area. Beth greets us with a smile and takes great care of us in both food and drinks. The live music is always good and everyone there is having a good time. At first we were a little apprehensive about eating there, but no worries! The stone crab were excellent, not watery at all and very fresh.

We went to Smoking Tuna and wow it has gotten so much better than last year. The bartender Robert was so informative and attentive to all of our needs. We were asking for somewhere to eat and he laughed and said there with him and it has been the best food our whole trip so far. Thank you Robert you are the bomb.

A bunch of us from Chicago went to Key West for a fun get-a-way vacation. One of the nights we were there, we happened to walk into Smokin Tuna Saloon. We had fun listening to the live music, until one of the bartenders came up to our table complaining about her tip. My husband went up to the bar and ordered 8 beers and few shots, paid with a credit card and gave her a 7 dollar tip. Now, mind you, we are sitting at a table far from the bar, this bartender cracked open 8 beers and made very simple easy few shots and she expected more than a 7 dollar tip. She didn't even bring them to the table or serve us any food. When she came over to our table and basically shoved the bill right in my husbands face complaining on what a shitty tip he gave her, we left. Well, I waited to speak to her manager and calmly explained the situation and how rude she was. We can not believe how rude this bartender was and because of her, we will NEVER return to that bar.

Off the beat-n-path. Our waitress was very friendly and we had the smoked tuna dip. It was good, but not a knock out. We like to try dives and would go here again to escape the touristy Key West.

If you are looking for a place nestled off the main drag with some great live music, you must stop here! My group had already eaten dinner, so we just got a few snacks to share. The shrimp dip was great. The fritters were some of the best. The smokin tuna dip was fiery hot perfection. I would definitely come back here again to enjoy the excellent live music and beautiful courtyard.

Love the courtyard atmosphere! Servers were friendly and attentive, the Blacked-Mahi I had was delicious. Then spent a little time at the corner bar with bartender John. Good time - We will be back for sure.

One of THE best atmospheres on Key West. Very good live music! The problem I have each time we go there is the service. Bartenders and waitresses are rude and slow. The food is ok. But with unfriendly service, nothing tastes quite as good as it should...

The Fury sunset Catamaran cruise was cancelled. Too much wind and possible storms. Plan B by our coordinator move to Smokin' Tuna with the prepared food, cake (my birthday), photographers, and 45 guests. We are inside at an adjoining room to the courtyard which is the center of activity ..bars and music. It works. The staff fantastic, bartender great (open freakin' bar). And we enjoy our sunset cruise but back off Duval. Can't rate the food as it came from another restaurant. But the music was wonderful and the unique location won over some very difficult critics. So if you are coming from the waterfront hand a right at the strip club, go down the ally and it's on the left.

Should have known when we saw the hawker at the corner. Firmly in the mediocre category. Nothing bad, just nothing very good. The musician had volume going for him and not much else. Give it a pass.

A great place off of Duval street. Destin to be the next great bar in the Keys!! Two bars, live music and good food! While on the Duval crawl, you must stop in!
